Caden’s First Steps!!!
I can’t believe it!!! My baby took his first steps tonight!!! We suspected it was coming soon, but it still took us by surprise. Over the past week he has learned to pull himself up to standing and has stood for several seconds at a time without falling and walks all over the house holding onto our fingers. There has been a debate at what we should consider his official first steps. We have not wanted to call it unless we were absolutely sure. There was no denying it this time!
Here’s how it happened…Tonight Adam and Caden were playing in his room while I read in Caden’s rocker. Caden was standing up holding onto the ottoman. He just let go and headed towards Adam. He took a solid two steps before falling. His official first steps!!! Adam ran and got the camera and propped it up in his crib and we sat on the floor to see if he would do it again. He did several times taking 4 steps before losing his balance! I’m so proud of him and maybe a little terrified since he is only 8 months and a week old. Life is about to get a whole lot busier!
Here is the video! Enjoy!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

I think Allie and Liz look more like sisters in this pic than Allie and I do!

Lucky boy!!!

We were having a hard time getting him to focus on taking a picture because he was too focused on eating Allie’s very colorful necklace

Whatever you do, just don’t laugh…
A few nights ago I was feeding Caden dinner when he started blowing bubbles with food in his mouth. He has done this before on accident, but this time he thought it was really cool. Lately he is really into making different noises and I guess this one was fun. I told him no and gave him another bite and he did it again. I said no but he did it again. By this point he has perfected the blowing so that tiny specks of baby food went everywhere in a very even spray. I look at him and he has this look on his face like he is so proud of himself and what learned. Thats when I made the mistake. I tried to hold it in, but I just couldn’t help but laugh. Of course he gets a gigantic grin and proceeds to blow bubbles with every single bite and laugh like crazy. By the end of dinner, Caden and I were both covered in baby food. I’m not even sure how much of it he actually swallowed. I guess I should have ended the meal early, but he would laugh and then I would laugh and I’ve heard laughing is good for you so I let it go on. Thank goodness that his little baby brain forgot the next morning that blowing bubbles while eating is great fun!
This pic doesn’t even begin to show the mess that he made.

More Cupcake Fun
I attempted another cupcake project out of my fun cupcake book, Hello Cupcake. These were for my friend, Lesley’s baby shower last weekend. The recipe called for yellow and orange icing for the petals to create sunflowers. I decided in keeping with the theme of the party and the fact that she is having a baby girl that I’d use baby pink for the petals. The result looks like a pink sunflower which I am pretty sure doesn’t exist unless the people at A&M have genetically engineered one
Oh well, that didn’t seem to bother anyone at the party. The center of the flowers are different sized oreos and the little ladybugs are red M&Ms with black frosting. I had lots of fun making them!

Now I just need another special occasion so I can try another project!
Caden is 7 months!
Man time is flying! I feel like I just wrote the 6 month post. This month was a lot of fun! Caden is learning so much everyday. It is so fun to watch him. When I took him to the doctor a few weeks ago he weighed 18.5 lbs. I don’t know how long he is, but I know that I recently packed away all of his 6 month pants because we woke up one day and all of them were high waters.
This month he learned and perfected the army crawl. He can pretty much get himself anywhere he wants to go and pretty quickly. About halfway through the month I put him in the middle of my bed so I could get dressed and by the time I pulled my shirt on I barely caught him by the ankle as he launched himself head first off the side of the bed (luckily it is a platform bed so he only would have fallen a few inches). The kid has no fear and no common sense! I assume this is the case with most babies. He tries to climb on and over everything, the couch, us, the puppies, chair legs… His latest thing is trying to climb out of his little duck tub in the middle of his baths. I never realized how slippery a wet soapy baby could be! He has also perfected the corkscrew while getting his diaper changed and getting dressed. He twists between his back and stomach the whole time while trying to crawl off the changing table naked. Amazing that sometimes it takes two adults to dress such a tiny little guy. It doesn’t seem like it was long ago that I was so proud of him for learning to roll over. Now I wish he wasn’t quite so good at it! He also has learned to bang things and really enjoys the noise it makes. Interestingly he is starting to really favor his left hand. I have no idea when handedness develops, but maybe we have a lefty. He is getting super fast at grabbing things with either hand and EVERYTHING goes straight to his mouth. He doesn’t have any teeth yet, but he definitely acts like he is teething.
He said his first and only word this month, Dada. Well actually it was dadadadadadada, but we’ll give it to him. Adam couldn’t be happier!!! He is no where near making an “m” noise and doesn’t seem particularly interested in learning, so no mama on the horizon
He does make “g” and “k” noises a lot. He has a great vocal range. We think he is practicing to be a second soprano when he screams, which is often and for no apparent reason other than to hear himself. In general though he is a happy good natured baby and a joy to have around (although we most definitely have our days when Adam is dealing with a crying baby and a crying wife). One of his favorite games is reaching out to people so they will hold him. Then he goes back and forth and back and forth. He even reaches out sometimes for complete strangers to pick him up which is a little scary for me. I had to be rude and tell the lady at the grocery store that I wasn’t comfortable with her picking up my baby, even if he was. I guess it is good thing that he is social.
This month we took Caden to the park twice for mini photo shoots. He wasn’t interested in smiling either day, but I still love the pics. Check them out…
This is a contraption Adam set up to take video of Caden playing in his walker. Check back soon for the video…

Like I said, EVERYTHING goes straight to his mouth!

We’ll call this one The Thinker

Thanks for looking! More to come soon…
